Soul Survivor

388930_7755.jpgSoul Survivor is an Evangelical youth initiative, founded and led by Mike Pilavachi, which runs mission events for young people across England and Wales. The first event took place in 1993 in Shepton Mallet for around 2,000 young people and aimed to offer them inspiring worship, teaching and prayer ministry. In the twelve years since, Soul Survivor events have grown enormously and now attract over 20,000 young people in their teens and twenties who spend up to five days praying and engaged in community service. At the heart of the Soul Survivor initiative is the vision of leading young people to a deep encounter with Jesus Christ and, in turn, equipping and training them for mission.

The largest Soul Survivor event to date was called Soul in the City which took place in the summer of 2004. This event aimed to bring thousands of young people together in London for a time of fellowship, prayer and practical service. Whilst mornings were spent in prayer and catechesis, afternoons were taken up with street cleaning, gardening, car washes and running a variety of events with the aim of giving witness to Christ through service. A number of young Catholics took part in the event, most notably running a music festival from St Patrick’s Church in Soho Square which is adjacent to one of London’s most famous red light districts. Soul Survivor offers attractive and professional events for young people. Catholic youth leaders need to make their own arrangements regarding Mass provision which is not offered as part of the main programme.
