St Monica
"There was indeed one thing for which I wished to tarry a little in this life, and that was that I might see you a Catholic before I died. My God hath answered this more than abundantly, so that I see you now made His servant and spurning all earthly happiness. What more am I to do here?"
Recounted by St Augustine before St Monica died: Confessions, book 9, chapter 10
St Monica is the Patron Saint of ‘resting’ Catholics. She is especially revered by mothers because of her tireless prayers for the conversion of her son, Augustine. For 12 years she stormed heaven with her prayers and tears, begging God to bring her son back to the Catholic Faith.
One night, Monica had a dream. She saw herself standing on a narrow wooden beam with a handsome, radiant young man. The youth told her to dry her tears because one day her son Augustine would be with her. Eventually Monica’s prayers were answered. Augustine embraced the Christian life, later became a bishop and was declared a saint.

Catholic saints are holy people who lived extraordinary lives. Each saint the Church honours responded to God's invitation to use his or her unique gifts. God calls each one of us to be a saint.
